“Rhinoplasty” is the official term for what is commonly called a nose job. It is not just one standard operation. A skilled plastic surgeon takes into account the patient’s other facial features, their ethnicity, and the results they want.
Thirty or forty years ago, a nose job meant getting a typical “ski jump” nose. While it suited some faces well, it was not quite right for others.

If the septum – the “divider” between the nostrils – is crooked, the surgeon may straighten it out. This not only straightens the nose, it also often has the added benefit of helping the patient breathe easier through the nose.
This can be a welcome relief in itself and can result in better sleep. And better sleep can have its own aesthetic effect, because when a person is rested, he or she usually looks healthier.
Sometimes the tip of the nose is made shorter. Sometimes noses that have a “hook” shape are modified to be straighter and shorter. People with very wide nostrils may have them reduced in size, and some people who feel that the bridge of the nose is too wide may have it made narrower as well.
Good plastic surgeons today know that the best , rhinoplasty results don’t just obliterate the old nose and replace it with the new one, but come from an individualized and even artistic approach.
